Area of research: Migration, trafficking and the sex industry. Edited a special issue of Sexualities called the Cultural Study of Commercial Sex and publishes widely in both academic and non-academic venues, in English and Spanish. Her book, Sex at the Margins: Migration, Labour Markets and the Rescue Industry examines the impulse to help and save prostitutes from a postcolonial viewpoint. Many of her publications are available on her website/blog, Border Thinking on Migration and Trafficking: Culture, Economy and Sex, Laura created and moderates an email list called IndustriadelSexo in romance languages, for people working in the sex industry and their supporters.
